Each publication was a release that cataloged “tools”, which broadly included products, books, guides, maps, and educational resources. Initially started as a way for Stewart Brand to personally learn and share things he was interested in, the publication grew in influence as a countercultural publication — not selling products, but promoting a curated worldview and perspective for survivalists and hippies alike.
