At its best, creative work breaks down barriers and makes original connections between ideas, styles, and worlds. It’s this rare but necessary step that New Inc, an incubator program run out of the New Museum in NYC, excels in like few other cultural institutions.
For the past decade New Inc has supported, incubated, and launched spectacular artists and projects. Something we’ve gotten to witness first-hand, as a New Inc board member and advisor over the past decade.
This week we’re excited to welcome New Inc to the Metalabel universe, with a host of new releases from their members and alumni. All are worthy of your exploration. Below are three that especially stand out.
Releases we love
Jitr Print Series by elekhlekha อีเหละเขละขละ
A risograph print series from elekhlekha’s Jitr จิตร —a live-coding gong ensemble blending Southeast Asian sonic traditions, archival footage, and code experiments. The prints translate sound, memory, and distortion into visual form. (Danielle Paterson)
Gay Pompeii 79 A.D. by Legacy Russell, published by GenderFail
Legacy Russell’s GAY POMPEII is a collection of poems exploring civilization’s cliffside. Written during her Digital Fellowship with the Pompeii Commitment, these texts sift through ash and spectacle, queering the mythos of the ruined city to confront what endures—desire, decay, and the violence of capitalism. (Danielle Paterson)
Life Touching Life, Volume One by Dakota Gearhart
This artist book captures an animated series hosted by an interdimensional guide who weaves together speculative storytelling, net art, and poetic exchanges with scholars, artists, and caretakers. A tender invitation to imagine new forms of co-existence with non-human life. [Watch the series here] (Danielle Paterson)
